Future HMCS Harry DeWolf launches

Navy News / September 24, 2018

The first of its class, the future HMCS Harry DeWolf  was launched at the Halifax Shipyard in Nova Scotia on September 15, 2018. It marks a significant milestone for the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) project and is a step closer towards delivering these new ice-capable patrol ships to the Royal Canadian Navy.

The launch evolution, where the ship was moved to water for the first time, began Friday morning on the rising tide. Harry DeWolf was then lifted and rolled onto a submersible transport barge. On Saturday, the barge was transported to the Bedford basin where it was slowly submerged. Harry DeWolf was towed back to the pier alongside Halifax Shipyard later in the evening.

A public naming ceremony, following Royal Canadian Navy traditions, will soon be held.

The delivery of Harry DeWolf is expected in Summer 2019, following successful completion of sea trials and other acceptance activities.
