Family members of HMCS Protecteur arrive safely in Pearl Harbor

Navy News / March 5, 2014

United States Ship (USS) Michael Murphy arrived alongside Pearl Harbor, Hawaii on March 4th, 2014 carrying family members and civilian contractors who were on board Her Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) Protecteur when a fire broke out in Protecteur’s engine room.

The guests were transferred to USS Michael Murphy for their own comfort after the fire, and were taken back to Pearl Harbor ahead of Protecteur and its crew.

The family members had joined the ship in Pearl Harbor for the trip home to Esquimalt, B.C. after a deployment in the central Pacific. It is common practice for family members to join a ship for its final leg after a long deployment.
